Abstract
Leiomyosarcoma of the rectum is a rare but nonetheless highly dangerous malignancy.
Numerous authors have repeatedly emphasized the almost invariable recurrence of this
lesion after local excision, regardless of the grade of malignancy. The only hope
for “cure” is radical abdominoperineal resection as the initial definitive therapy
when the diagnosis has been established.
